Powerful Objects: How to Anchor a Scene in Poetry
Scenes aren’t just for novelists! This workshop explores how to write compelling scenes in poetry using objects as anchors. We will study scenes from novelist Richard Powers and poet Natalie Diaz, focusing on how each writer uses objects, rhythm, and images to zoom in or out of an important moment. Participants will learn the mechanics of building momentum in a scene and practice them by drafting a new poem. This workshop includes a lecture, readings, discussion, prompts, and time to write.
