Hermit Crab Poetry: Fun Twists on Poetic Form (via Literary Cleveland)
Wednesdays 6-8pm CT. Aug 5 - Sep 2
In this generative workshop, we will study and write hermit crab poems—poems that borrow their “shell” from existing documents, games, and forms of communication. Over five weeks, we will experience the joy of balancing serious topics with playful forms, creating the tension required to produce dynamic, compelling poems.

Learn MorePlot Twist (Unreliable Narrators) [via Poetry Society of New York]
Sunday, Aug 30th. 12-2pm CT
Poems don’t always have to tell a straightforward, linear story. In this seminar, we’ll consider what a poem can gain from embellishment, disorientation, rewriting history the way it should have happened, or circling around the truth until it finally hits the bullseye. The goal is a dance between tension and surprise—complex poems that live in a grey area, refusing easy storytelling in favor of messy, complicated truths. Works by Sasha Banks, Richard Siken, and Safia Elhillo will guide our exploration of poems that lie, twist, reveal, and overwhelm. Poets of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome!
