Plot Twist (Unreliable Narrators) [via Poetry Society of New York]

Poems donā€™t always have to tell a straightforward, linear story. In this seminar, weā€™ll consider what a poem can gain from embellishment, disorientation, rewriting history the way it should have happened, or circling around the truth until it finally hits the bullseye. The goal is a dance between tension and surpriseā€”complex poems that live in a grey area, refusing easy storytelling in favor of messy, complicated truths. Works by Sasha Banks, Richard Siken, and Safia Elhillo will guide our exploration of poems that lie, twist, reveal, and overwhelm. Poets of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome!
